A good time not to be barrelling along

On the way in to work this morning, I had to slow down in a construction zone on I-99 when a traffic barrel such as pictured above got away from a worker and rolled into the traffic lane. I had plenty of time to slow down. It just so happened that I was driving about the limit of 50.  I may even have been doing 49. The barrel rolled into the lane and then right back to where the worker was standing.

The time of her life

It's about 9:30 pm. Janet just got back from doing some work in the office at the Library. When she left at about 7:00 pm, she said she'd be about half an hour.

So she was right five times!

If a mime has fun in the woods, will anyone hear him?

Where I work, there's a practice of identifying an email as non-work-related by starting the subject line with the word "Fun."

(By the way, this leads to ironic subject lines such as "Fun: Not so fun: Bad accident on I-99".)

Thanks to our IT Department, most people have their email set up to automatically route subject-line-containing-the-word-"Fun" emails to a special "Fun" email box.

Okay, enough background. Today, friend and co-worker Tammy W sent a Fun email to the people in our area and apparently felt she wasn't getting enough response, because she forwarded the email to the same group and added the line in the body, "In case you didn't see this in your Fun email, I'm sending it again."

I pointed out to her that the email would still go into "Fun" email because it still had the word "Fun" in the title.

Tammy, Ya Goof!

P.S. But you're a fun goof.

Analysis of a NON-goof

Here's one for the advanced curriculum ... A circumstance that MADE me look like a goof when I wasn't. Honest!

THE SETTING
  • The cafeteria at work
  • The hallway outside the cafeteria

THE PLAYERS
  • Myself
  • A co-worker, Angie
  • A co-worker, Jim

THE ACTION
Scene 1
I was leaving the cafeteria as Angie entered. We work in the same building but different areas. We exchanged greetings.

Scene 2
A ways down the hallway, I remembered something that I needed from the cafeteria, so I turned around and went back.

Scene 3
I met Angie coming out of the cafeteria, followed by another co-worker, Jim, who works in yet another area different from mine or Angie's. I greeted Jim, but since I had just seen Angie, I couldn't very well greet her again, so I simply passed her by. Jim may have wondered why I was ignoring her.

But see? I was innocent!

So how's the new job?

You're a plumber's apprentice.

It's your first day at work.

You burn down a mansion.

I never said I was the sharpest blade in the drawer

Above is a picture of something you don't find in the average desk drawer: an Xacto blade dispenser. Way cool. The blades are in this little pocket that's spring loaded so it rises as the blade supply shrinks. I have one at work because ... wait for it ... I often use an Xacto blade. My dispenser over a decade old, but never reloaded, because ... wait for it ... I don't use an Xacto blade that often.

Anyway, today is the first time in all of those years that I noticed a little slot in the dispenser. See it above? It stumped me for only a fraction of a second, I'm proud to say.

That's where the used blades go, so they're collected safely.

And I've just been throwing them into my waste basket all this time. Where they could cut through the garbage bag, slice somebody's finger—Lord knows what mayhem they've been causing.

Keith, Ya Goof!

Take a closer look at your office tools. Who knows what you might discover.
